Where the metal is trading
Bullion and common coins ride the live market, and that market moves all day. Quantity counts as well, since a real amount of clean familiar material is easier to move on than a handful of leftovers.
How few of that year remain
Scarcity is what lifts a coin over its weight. Thin original mintages, and years that got melted or spent away, carry premiums with nothing to do with what the coin weighs.
How well it came through
Condition multiplies scarcity. A certified coin turns up with that already settled. A raw one we grade conservatively, because being wrong about it is our risk to carry rather than something to hand to you.
Same silver, different money
Two Morgan dollars can hold identical silver and sit nowhere near each other in value. One is a common year in worn shape and stays close to its metal.
